The Food Animal Initiative was formed to approach these and other grand challenges by bringing together creative, bright problem solvers from academia, government and industry to drive vital research that will increase animal protein production, refine sustainability practices and train the upcoming workforce.

Lead advancements in food animal agriculture to ensure a healthy, sustainable food system for the world as well as a reliable workforce to implement it.

Mission

The mission of the Food Animal Initiative is to propel North Carolina’s food animal industry to the forefront of global protein production through a transdisciplinary approach that will require innovative, science based solutions to grand challenges, while developing a skilled workforce to meet modern production needs and building consumer focused communications.
